MLB Winter Meetings = Big Deals
By Ozzie | December 6, 2007
There are two teams that have already gave their rosters a boost during this off-seasons MLB winter meetings. On Tuesday the Detroit Tigers acquired Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from the Florida Marlins for Andrew Miller and 5 other prospects. Cabrera will add another explosive bat to the already potent Tiger lineup and Willis should flourish against American League hitters who haven’t had a chance to see his deceptive delivery. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly came to terms with Andruw Jones on a 2-year/ 36 million dollar contract. They clearly were in need for more offensive production, and hope Jones can shake-off the worst hitting season of his career. The Dodgers will most likely move Juan Pierre to play left field and let Jones hawk all over the center of the the outfield.

As usual, being an A’s fan, I’m sorely dissappointed on Oakland’s offseason aquisitions(or lack thereof). After finishing at the bottom of the A.L. in runs scored, and avg. with RISP, Billy Beane and the A’s have done nothing to address these issues. Beane’s buy-low sell-high approach of free-agency is starting to bite him in his ass(disclaimer: no homosexual pun intended), with the skeletal remains of Mike Piazza providing almost nothing last season at dh…It’s time to cop a few legitimate bats, despite the cost…..
