NHL Outdoor game attracts a lot of attention
By Ozzie | January 2, 2008
The National Hockey League implemented the first regular season outdoor game played in the United States to their schedule, and I would consider it a success. The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 2-1, in front of 71,000 fans that crowded Ralph Wilson Stadium as if it was a Buffalo Bills game. The tail-gaters didn’t let snow flurries in New York prevent them from pregame festivities.
I hope that other sports, like the NBA, will try the outdoor game to attract more fans. It would be great to see NBA ballers take it to the blacktop for a playground pick-up style event. I know most players wouldn’t mind, unless their contracts had clauses that kept them from these style of games. I think this is the perfect time for David Stern to step up and introduce an outdoor game for the 2008-2009 seaon.
